Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is a common disorder that can be debilitating. The good news is that dietary changes can make a difference.
I follow the approaches recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence and those of the British Dietetic Association Gastroenterology Specialist Group, of which I am a member. Approaches depend on your individial symptoms, and include:
- increased, decreased, or different types of fibre
- specific probiotics
- reduced FODMAPS
- relaxation techniques
- elimination of different foods such as wheat or dairy
It is recommended that you see me fortnightly for a period of 6 sessions for best results, as it is very much a matter of trial and error till we find out what suits you best.
